Ideas Portal (Closed)

The Surpass Ideas Portal is now closed.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed over the years by submitting and voting on ideas, which have all been extremely valuable to the development of Surpass. We are no longer accepting new ideas via the IdeasPortal.

We still want to hear ideas form the Surpass Community,and in order to streamline the process we’re moving to a new innovations management system, which will allow us to efficiently manage and review ideas.Surpass champions within each organisation will have access to the new system and will be sent details of this soon.

All ‘open’ ideas on the Ideas Portal will be sent back to the parent organisation that submitted them, for review and resubmission on the new system where appropriate.

    From Release 1.3 you can now choose to create either General or Correct/Incorrect feedback for all computer marked items; this can then be made available to candidates either during or after a test.

  5. Alignment of Question Text

    I need to have an alignment function when writing questions (Same as using tab key when using word). We currently use the space bar to align text.

    Previous title 'tab in text box and underline function in pie box'.

    From Release 1.3, you are able to change the status of multiple items at once within Item Authoring.

  7. Cronbach's alpha

    In addition to the good suggestion put forward by someone else about the addition of the distractor values, we would like to have the cronbach's alpha included as well. It would be nice if the cronbach's alpha will be calculated for the entire test, but could be calculated as well for each section (unit) within the test.

    From Surpass Editions 1.5, you will be able to print the following question types to paper from the Test Wizard:

    Multiple Choice
    Either/Or
    Fill in the Blank
    Essay
    Short Answer

  10. Test Wizard. Paper and onScreen. Making 2 version (A and B) of the same selected questions

    Method 1: Manual question by question
    Method 2: Selection rule based (folder selection)

    On the last page of the test wizard, we want an option to generate 2 (or more) versions of the same test (A and B). The same selected questions in a different order.

  12. Add possibility to overrule default tooltip text of picture (name of picture)

    For teachers it is convenient to give media a recognisable name.
    Very often this name gives the student a clue about the answer of the question (they see the name of the picture when they hover over the picture). To avoid this, please add the possibility to give the picture an alternative tooltip text.

  13. Add labels (A,B,C, etc.) for each option by default for a printed test

    Right now you need to tick the box "Add labels to options" for each question you use for a paper based test.
    I like to suggest that when a paper based test is created, all options get a label (A,B,C, etc.) by default.
    Maybe by adding a by default ticked box in the "create paper based test" screen?

    Hi Hans, thanks for raising this. I can now confirm this is fixed for you. You will have to re-save any existing items to make sure this takes effect, but any new Multiple Choice, Multiple Response or Either/Or items will automatically generate these labels from now on.

    Provide report which lets Markers apply a grading scale which takes into account a pseudo-guessing chance and fixed pass grade, to any test form.

    From Release 1.3, within the Subjects screen in Setup you are now able to see which Centres a Subject is shared with.

  16. Flag items that have been used in tests

    When creating tests, users should be able to see which of the items have already been used in tests, including the date that the item was last used.

    This feature is available from Release 1.3.1. A new report called Item Authoring, will allow users to see items last used/delivered date.

  17. Filter by keyword

    Provide an option in Item Authoring for users to be able to filter their viewable items by keyword/search word. E.g. if I enter the word 'manage' it will filter and show all the items containing the word manage in either question, answer or meta data. This make searching for a particular item al lot more easy.

    From Release 1.3.1, in Item Authoring the user will be able to search items by Item ID and name. In Reporting the Item Production Report allows the user to search by Item Name, ID or Question Text.

    Both searches will return any items that are in the contained search.

  18. Distractor value analysis

    I miss one important element in the Item performance analysis table. Next to the p-value and the discrimination index, which give an indication of the quality of the question as a whole, I would like to see a discriminator value.

    The discriminator value for the right answer is the p-value. But the discriminator value of the wrong answers is also important, because it gives information on how well the alternative works as a distractor. A poor distractor influences the quality of the item as a whole.

  20. Extra Workflowstatus, it would be handy if there was a workflowstatus "ready to go live"

    When an item is written it can be reviewed by serveral others but there is no status for the moment that the author has completed the item and wants to deliver it for making it live. In our organisation it is not the author that has that authority, that is the gatekeeper. The gatekeeper needs this status, otherwise he'll get confused. Has the item been reviewd? Has the item been adjusted? Is it ready for giging it the live status? With an extra "ready to go live" status life would be much easier for the gatekeeper.
