Ideas Portal (Closed)

The Surpass Ideas Portal is now closed.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed over the years by submitting and voting on ideas, which have all been extremely valuable to the development of Surpass. We are no longer accepting new ideas via the IdeasPortal.

We still want to hear ideas form the Surpass Community, and in order to streamline the process we’re moving to a new innovations management system, which will allow us to efficiently manage and review ideas.Surpass champions within each organisation will have access to the new system and will be sent details of this soon.

All ‘open’ ideas on the Ideas Portal will be sent back to the parent organisation that submitted them, for review and resubmission on the new system where appropriate.

Thanks again to everyone who has contributed.

  1. Translation change (NL): Gemiddeld -> Modereren

In English the menu option "Moderate" is translated in Dutch as "Gemiddeld". This should be "Modereren".

  3. numeric questions: add support for mainland Europe notation too.

After testing a lot with numeric questions we found out several problems.

1 the last zero of a decimal number is removed after saving the question. If you type a range like: 1.10 - 1.18 it will be saved as 1.1 - 1.18

    2 Very important!
The decimal separator, a comma (,) for Europe (exept GB) is not accepted at all. This means we can't use the numeric questions in the Netherlands at all because our students needs to use a comma as a decimal separator.

Please add a function to set the decimal separator to either comma (,) or…

Surpass allows the candidate to type the last zero of a decimal number and still attain full marks.

The function to set the decimal separator to either comma (,) or period (.):

From Release 12.2, you will be able to use either a comma (,) or a decimal (.) as a regional setting default in Item Authoring. From Release 12.3 this can be changed at an item level.

Surpass allows the candidate to type the thousands separator and still attain full marks.

  4. User Permissions

It will be very helpful if we are able to give users permission to a specific folder in a subject.

  5. email address can be registered to more than one user

If a 'Super admin' type role then should be able to use their email address for one than one User. Testers also could do with this feature. I would think somewhere some super administrator might want to set up multiple users to do different jobs but enter the same email?

  6. Add multiple response question types to the 'download printable test' function

We want to use the 'download printable test' function in Test Wizard but cannot because multiple-response question types are unsupported. Please could you consider adding this to the functionality, so we are able to make better use of the Test Wizard option?

    Hi Jenni,

This work has now been developed and will be available in Release 12.1

    Thanks,
    Claire

  7. Allow superscript & subscript in the 'text authoring' field

Superscript numbers other than the very standard ones e.g. squared, cannot be added in text authoring. We require a large number e.g. superscript 9 for many questions, and our only workaround at present is to use the 'pie' entry option. This is a poor solution because it requires the entire question to be typed in manually, and the formatting is different to those of the text questions, giving a poor user experience for candidates and looking unprofessional.

  8. Within a Test Form, adjust the marking to suit the particular test.

A question could be used by many types of candidates e.g. Process Operator, Tradesman, Designer, Engineer. Getting the answer right could be CRITICAL for the Designer and the Engineer, IMPORTANT for the Technician but only ADVISABLE for the Operator. We could mark 5, 3 and 1 respectively if we could alter it at Test Form level whilst leaving the basic mark in Item Authoring as 1. Don't want to have to create copies of the question because technical requirements may change - we don't want to have to modify multiple copies!

    Thank you for your contribution.

  9. Tussentijds opslaan

  11. A way to highlight or mark a learner and their assessment in the marking and/or moderation screen

If we need to investigate a learners assessment, there is always a risk that their assessment is marked and their result moderated and released. Therefore it would be really useful to have a way to highlight or mark a learners assessment in the marking and the moderation screen to alert colleagues to not mark or moderate the assessment.

    Hello,

Currently in Surpass you can flag exams for suspected malpactice which would prevent exams from being marked and moderated. This would be a useful solution for this idea.

    Thanks

  12. Give users the ability to configure timer pop-ups.

It could be beneficial to have the ability to customise time remaining notifications rather than just having the 3 default times (30,15 and 5 minutes)

    Hi,

    Thank you for your idea.
As far as I understand your asking to be able to use more than 5 section in Test Creation.

Since release 12.3 you have the ability to use up to ten sections on Test Creation and Test Wizard.
I hope this answers your request.

  14. Ability to add question items/rules into an assessment which are flagged as for pretest

A rule or fixed item could be added into an assessment and flagged as a pretest item. This means that although it is delivered to the candidate as part of the assessment it is not counted in results or visible in reporting at end of the assessment, marking, assessment audit or view marked assessments unless the user has appropriate permissions.

    Hello,

This feature currently exists in Surpass. Within Test forms (Test Creation) you have the option to set items to be “Non-scored” which would work ad a solution to this idea.

  15. Increase maximum characters in question comments field

As we use this to provide referencing to the answer (inc. journal refs etc) 500 characters is very limiting - could this be increased please?

  16. Have a option to add text after tables.

There is normally text after a table and before an input area.
Would this be possible to add.

  17. Testing status for QA purposes

    Situation:

An existing test has 3 test forms. All tests / test forms are live.

    Centres can schedule.

Test forms are done through secure client.
Learners will be assigned one of the test forms (automatic selection and randomisation of test forms).

I want to add a fourth test form. How can I QA the new test form without the risk of a centre/learner accidentally being assigned the new test form under automatic selection/randomisation? In order to schedule the test and test it through the secure client, I have to make the test form live. Could there be another status for…

  18. Increase range of file types and sizes to support candidate evidence

Candidates currently use a variety of social media options, these have to be exported and in many cases cut into multiple versions to allow upload.

The file size of 20MB does not support even standard jpg.sizes

    Hello,

This feature already exists within Surpass. To do this you can allow upload of different file types and file sizes through the manual option in File Attach question type.

    Thanks

  19. Keep the item order when adding many items to a Test Form. Avoid multiple clicking of the arrows.

When adding many items to a Test Form using the Search facility, it should keep the order in which they were selected. Having to clicking the arrows many times to move the items is a pain!
