Ideas Portal (Closed)

The Surpass Ideas Portal is now closed.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed over the years by submitting and voting on ideas, which have all been extremely valuable to the development of Surpass. We are no longer accepting new ideas via the IdeasPortal.

We still want to hear ideas form the Surpass Community, and in order to streamline the process we’re moving to a new innovations management system, which will allow us to efficiently manage and review ideas.Surpass champions within each organisation will have access to the new system and will be sent details of this soon.

All ‘open’ ideas on the Ideas Portal will be sent back to the parent organisation that submitted them, for review and resubmission on the new system where appropriate.

Thanks again to everyone who has contributed.

  1. Add random questions feature to "Paper and On Screen" based test in Test Wizard.

The Paper and On Screen feature of the Test Wizard (including the Add random questions feature) should replace the feature by Test Creation > Test Forms > Printed test.
Both candidate and teacher versions should be saved in Surpass (as in Printed test does now).

This way there is one clear way to create and store Paper based tests.

    Thanks

  2. Ability to add word counter

We want to have the possibility to add a word counter by essay questions. A student doesn't have to count the words if they have to write an essay with a minimun of words.

  3. Test Wizard: make it possible to add random x questions from a folder of a Subject

Right now you only can select questions and add them to the test you are creating.
Make it possible to put to high light a folder, show how many questions are available in this folder, and type a number of random questions you like to add from this folder to the test.

  5. Passmark according to Learning Outcomes

Currently you can assign passmark's to a section, but you cannot assign passmark's to Learning Outcomes. The request is to be able to build an assessment and specify the passmark that the candidate must achieve for a Learning Outcome with the option to be able to randomise all items and Learning Outcomes within the assessment.

A possible extension of this requirement is to serve up a resit test which only covers the Learning Outcomes that the candidate has failed in previous assessments.

  6. Add keycode free Tests assessable by a direct link.

Add keycode free Tests available by a direct link.

From Release 1.3.1, Test creators can now create a web link for their test which can be shared with test reviewers or candidates for a set number of days. You may find this useful if you wish to quality check the test before scheduling or if you require candidates to sit practice or formative tests.

A keycode is still present but this is a sample keycode, therefore the candidate just needs to select the OK button to proceed.

  7. Simplified Test Creation Tool

Provide a wizard that allows users to quickly create simple tests from within a Subject in Item Authoring.

    Hi Hans,

From Surpass Editions 1.5, you will be able to print the following question types to paper from the Test Wizard:

    Multiple Choice
    Either/Or
    Fill in the Blank
    Essay
    Short Answer

    Thanks
    Sophie

  9. Test Wizard. Paper and onScreen. Making 2 version (A and B) of the same selected questions

    Selecting Questions
Method 1: Manual question by question
Method 2: Selection rule based (folder selection)

On the last page of the test wizard, we want an option to generate 2 (or more) versions of the same test (A and B). The same selected questions in a different order.

  10. Add labels (A,B,C, etc.) for each option by default for a printed test

Right now you need to tick the box "Add labels to options" for each question you use for a paper based test.
I like to suggest that when a paper based test is created, all options get a label (A,B,C, etc.) by default.
Maybe by adding a by default ticked box in the "create paper based test" screen?

Hi Hans, thanks for raising this. I can now confirm this is fixed for you. You will have to re-save any existing items to make sure this takes effect, but any new Multiple Choice, Multiple Response or Either/Or items will automatically generate these labels from now on.

  11. Flag items that have been used in tests

When creating tests, users should be able to see which of the items have already been used in tests, including the date that the item was last used.

This feature is available from Release 1.3.1. A new report called Item Authoring, will allow users to see items last used/delivered date.

  12. Restrict the number of times that a test can be taken

There is a regulatory requirement from the DfE that for qualifications on the 14-16 performance tables you should only be able to sit a test twice. Whilst you can ensure that you do not tick 'Allow Test Form Recycling' and only provide 2 papers, this is restrictive and will cause a loop hole when the papers are changed. Could it please be considered that a box is provided on the test to specify the number of sittings?

  13. Create preview for every question in a folder.

To create new questions you must know what questions are already in the folder / learning objective (leerresultaat). Currently you must open every single question in the folder and write (parts of) the questions down to get an overview of all your current question. This can take up to 15-20 minutes, even before you can start writing your first question.

I would like to be able to select a folder and get an overview of all my questions in windowview. Ideally a would like to move the questions up and down to organize them. If you could add the itemanalysis…

From Release 1.3, you are able to return to and edit tests which have previously been created in the Test Wizard.

  15. Tussentijds opslaan

From Surpass 12.3, there will be the following save options available when authoring an item:

    Save
    Save and Edit
    Save and Close

  16. Ability to add question items/rules into an assessment which are flagged as for pretest

A rule or fixed item could be added into an assessment and flagged as a pretest item. This means that although it is delivered to the candidate as part of the assessment it is not counted in results or visible in reporting at end of the assessment, marking, assessment audit or view marked assessments unless the user has appropriate permissions.

    Hello,

This feature currently exists in Surpass. Within Test forms (Test Creation) you have the option to set items to be “Non-scored” which would work ad a solution to this idea.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your idea.
As far as I understand your asking to be able to use more than 5 section in Test Creation.

Since release 12.3 you have the ability to use up to ten sections on Test Creation and Test Wizard.
I hope this answers your request.

  18. Within a Test Form, adjust the marking to suit the particular test.

A question could be used by many types of candidates e.g. Process Operator, Tradesman, Designer, Engineer. Getting the answer right could be CRITICAL for the Designer and the Engineer, IMPORTANT for the Technician but only ADVISABLE for the Operator. We could mark 5, 3 and 1 respectively if we could alter it at Test Form level whilst leaving the basic mark in Item Authoring as 1. Don't want to have to create copies of the question because technical requirements may change - we don't want to have to modify multiple copies!

Your Idea its live on our Surpass product. Please see information about weighted marking.
    Thank you for your contribution.

  19. Keep the item order when adding many items to a Test Form. Avoid multiple clicking of the arrows.

When adding many items to a Test Form using the Search facility, it should keep the order in which they were selected. Having to clicking the arrows many times to move the items is a pain!
