Ideas Portal (Closed)

The Surpass Ideas Portal is now closed.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed over the years by submitting and voting on ideas, which have all been extremely valuable to the development of Surpass. We are no longer accepting new ideas via the IdeasPortal.

We still want to hear ideas form the Surpass Community, and in order to streamline the process we’re moving to a new innovations management system, which will allow us to efficiently manage and review ideas.Surpass champions within each organisation will have access to the new system and will be sent details of this soon.

All ‘open’ ideas on the Ideas Portal will be sent back to the parent organisation that submitted them, for review and resubmission on the new system where appropriate.

Thanks again to everyone who has contributed.

  1. Paper output functionality to be available through a Subject in Item Authoring when originally created in the Test Creation

I would like to use the Print and Scan functionality that is available in a Subject within Item Authoring for Tests created through Test Creation, so that I can print my tests from the Item Authoring at the Subject Level and benefit from the Print and Scan functionality.

  3. Ability to create enemy relationships

Have the ability to create enemy items, to prevent questions from appearing together, if similar questions are used or some questions give away the answers to others.

  4. Support for Table Creation in Authoring

There should be 2 types of tables available:

    1. Static tables (i.e. the author sets it up as part of the question)

    2. Candidate table entry (i.e. it might be an empty or pre-filled table and the candidate has to put their answers in.

  7. CSV Import for Metadata

I would like to be able to import Subject Tags using a spreadsheet instead of spending time typing out individual entries in Item Authoring.

  8. Add the ‘Track Changes’ option as available in Microsoft Word under the ‘Review’ tab.

This can be especially useful for those who have remote users contributing to the question editing process, and greatly assist those responsible for reviewing/quality assuring these contributions.

  9. Friendly questions, or case questions

A lot of teachers use case questions in their tests (there is another idea in this portal that's more or less the same).

I'd like to call them Friendly Questions, the oposite of enemy questions.
Where enemy questions are excluded in a test when one of them is included, the oposite goes for friendly questions: if one of them is included, the rest should be included as well. Preferabely if you could add a case discription to them.

  11. New Hotspot Question Type

Allow users to create questions that ask the candidate to select/highlight areas of an image to get the correct answer. Authors need to be able to use abstract shapes, as well as circles and rectangles, to define correct areas though.

The Hotspot question type is available from Release 1.3 and allows you to select the correct area of an image that your candidate will need to identify to gain marks. This means you can test the candidate’s ability to recognise and interpret a variety of images such as maps, graphs, tables or diagrams.

  12. Display enlarged images in tools by selecting embedded images

Within Item Authoring provide candidates with the ability to view enlarged versions of an embedded image so that these images can be viewed in more detail.

From Release 1.3 when authoring items, it is now possible to use images as answer options for multiple choice, multiple response and either/or questions. You can even mix and match image answer options with text answer options.

  15. Add Feedback to Questions

Allow question authors to add feedback for candidates to individual items, which can be turned off or on when delivering a test.

  17. Alignment of Question Text

I need to have an alignment function when writing questions (Same as using tab key when using word). We currently use the space bar to align text.

Previous title 'tab in text box and underline function in pie box'.
