Ideas Portal (Closed)

The Surpass Ideas Portal is now closed.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed over the years by submitting and voting on ideas, which have all been extremely valuable to the development of Surpass. We are no longer accepting new ideas via the IdeasPortal.

We still want to hear ideas form the Surpass Community, and in order to streamline the process we’re moving to a new innovations management system, which will allow us to efficiently manage and review ideas.Surpass champions within each organisation will have access to the new system and will be sent details of this soon.

All ‘open’ ideas on the Ideas Portal will be sent back to the parent organisation that submitted them, for review and resubmission on the new system where appropriate.

Thanks again to everyone who has contributed.

  1. Add the ‘Track Changes’ option as available in Microsoft Word under the ‘Review’ tab.

This can be especially useful for those who have remote users contributing to the question editing process, and greatly assist those responsible for reviewing/quality assuring these contributions.

  3. Display ‘void’ in the grade column for the Raw Data Extract

Currently we’re not showing if a candidate result is ‘voided’ or not, they just appear as a 0 actual mark for the test, with all item data blank. Could we display ‘void’ in the grade column if the test is voided. This is useful purely just to filter this data out when analysing.

  4. Friendly questions, or case questions

A lot of teachers use case questions in their tests (there is another idea in this portal that's more or less the same).

I'd like to call them Friendly Questions, the oposite of enemy questions.
Where enemy questions are excluded in a test when one of them is included, the oposite goes for friendly questions: if one of them is included, the rest should be included as well. Preferabely if you could add a case discription to them.

  7. Passmark according to Learning Outcomes

Currently you can assign passmark's to a section, but you cannot assign passmark's to Learning Outcomes. The request is to be able to build an assessment and specify the passmark that the candidate must achieve for a Learning Outcome with the option to be able to randomise all items and Learning Outcomes within the assessment.

A possible extension of this requirement is to serve up a resit test which only covers the Learning Outcomes that the candidate has failed in previous assessments.

    Thank you for your contribution.

  8. New Hotspot Question Type

Allow users to create questions that ask the candidate to select/highlight areas of an image to get the correct answer. Authors need to be able to use abstract shapes, as well as circles and rectangles, to define correct areas though.

The Hotspot question type is available from Release 1.3 and allows you to select the correct area of an image that your candidate will need to identify to gain marks. This means you can test the candidate’s ability to recognise and interpret a variety of images such as maps, graphs, tables or diagrams.

  9. Display enlarged images in tools by selecting embedded images

Within Item Authoring provide candidates with the ability to view enlarged versions of an embedded image so that these images can be viewed in more detail.

  11. In the marking screen to position annotations next to the relevant part of the candidates response

It would be useful in the marking screen to position annotations on a scrolling essay response next to the relevant part of the candidates response

From Release 1.3 when authoring items, it is now possible to use images as answer options for multiple choice, multiple response and either/or questions. You can even mix and match image answer options with text answer options.

  13. Allow Primary Centre Association to be changed

I would like to be able to change the primary centre associated for a Subject after migration. This will help me to reorganise my subjects by associating them with the correct centres.

  15. Item Performance Report - present all questions together

Item Performance Report - present all questions together as well as in separate papers. It would be good to get the P values for questions across all tests so that we can have a reasonable idea about how an item performs over time and to eliminate the variables of particular cohorts.

  19. SecureClient and Surpass connectivity diagnostic

After centres download SecureClient, it would be really helpful if a connectivity daignostic could be provided to ensure that any communication blockage between SecureClient and Surpass can be quickly resolved. In this way Centres could be guided in making the necessary tweaks on their network.

Your Idea was successfully completed and its live on our Surpass product.

You can do a system check to audio/video/microphone and internet settings on the candidate’s PC prior to the candidate entering a Keycode and beginning their test.
Click the System Check button in Secure Client screen to go through the procedure.

  20. Add keycode free Tests assessable by a direct link.

Add keycode free Tests available by a direct link.
These test should be available x time to all candidates of a certain centre or a selection of candidates of a certain centre.
The direct link can be used in a for example a VLE or in a mail message.

From Release 1.3.1, Test creators can now create a web link for their test which can be shared with test reviewers or candidates for a set number of days. You may find this useful if you wish to quality check the test before scheduling or if you require candidates to sit practice or formative tests.

A keycode is still present but this is a sample keycode, therefore the candidate just needs to select the OK button to proceed.
