Below you will find details of new and updated features that have been introduced in release 12.7 of Surpass. The features are divided into sections based on the area of the system which they affect.
Test Delivery: HTML Delivery (β)
Candidates may now take a test in HTML delivery mode, providing that all the items within the test are compatible. Please see here for a full list of HTML-supported features.
Test Delivery: Additional Languages
Exams can now be delivered in the following languages:
- Portuguese (Brazilian)
Candidates may now export Spreadsheet questions from packaged tests. This export can then be printed or emailed.
Item Authoring: Survey Items
Item authors can now create Survey Items to be included in tests; the following item types are supported as survey items: Multiple Choice, Multiple Response and Essay questions. Survey Items are items which carry zero marks and do not have an effect on the progress bar in delivery.
Item Authoring: Multiple Question Stems
In Item Authoring, you can now add multiple question blocks to all item types. This means that you can include a mix of text, media and equations in the question stem.
Item Authoring: Answer Options Layout
For Multiple Choice, Multiple Response and Either/Or question types, item authors are able to present answer options in two columns. This means that users are able to present a combination of text, media and equations side-by-side.
Item Authoring: Item Search (β)
Users can now utilise the Item Search functionality to quickly and easily locate items relevant to them, across all subjects that they have access to.
Item Authoring: Item Lists (β)
Using the items that were gathered from the Item Search functionality, users can choose to create a static list of those items, giving quicker access to edit the items that are relevant to them. You are also able to broadcast these lists to an external system, via API.
Item Authoring: HTML Tests in Test Wizard
Users can now create HTML tests in the Test Wizard to be delivered through HTML Delivery. Please see here for a full list of HTML-supported features.
Item Authoring: Decimal Places on Spreadsheet Question
Users can now determine whether numbers are rounded to whole numbers or up to two decimal places in the Spreadsheet question type.
Test Creation: Learning Outcome Boundaries
Users are now able to apply Learning Outcome Boundaries at a test form level. This means that you are able to set a requirement for candidates to achieve a certain percentage against individual learning outcomes in addition to the overall score for a test, in order to pass it. Users are also able to set a threshold for the total number of marks that need to be obtained before a learning outcome boundary affects the result.
Reporting: Learning Outcome Boundaries
Learning Outcome Boundaries can be created, edited and removed in the Rescoring tab of Reporting.
*Setup and Site Admin: Creation of Custom Roles
Users with the Site Administration role are able to create custom roles that can be assigned during 'User setup'. The custom roles and the permissions you assign to that role are based upon the tabs in Surpass. Customisable roles streamline the process of assigning permissions to users and will give greater flexibility in configuring workflows in Surpass.
Setup and Site Admin: Additional Candidate Details
Users with the ability to manage candidates will now be able to record gender and middle name details against candidates, allowing organisations to input additional differentiating information, and allowing enhanced integration with other systems.
Setup and Site Admin: Option to Exclude a Centre's Statistics
Users are able to eliminate statistics from specific selected centres, so that they are not included in overall Reporting data.
Integration: Updates to v2 of the Surpass API
There have been a number of updates to the Surpass API for Release 12.7, including the ability to:
- Extract scale score mappings for analytics and historical results
- View tags that have been assigned to items in Item Authoring
- Setup centres so they do not update reporting statistics in Surpass
- Extract candidates’ delivery interactions to assist with appeals
- View learning outcome scoring data on results
- Import and extract survey items
- Import and extract items with multiple elements to the question stem and two column answer options.
Release 12.7 of Surpass offers a number of enhancements made to improve usability. Updates include:
- Improved clarity in warning messages when candidates attempt to resume a test in a different delivery engine to the one in which they began the test.
- Comma functionality for the Table and Spreadsheet question types.
- There is now a warning in place, reminding users that they can enter up to 3000 characters in total for content entered into the Extended Matching question type.
Developments are underway to move Surpass from Flash to HTML. A number of features have been made available in HTML in 12.7. To stay up to date with HTML developments, see here for a full list of supported features.
