How to Add Source Material

About: When creating an item, you can choose to add media as source material. These are files that the candidate needs to refer to in order to respond to the question. In delivery, the candidate will need to select the icon to open attached source material. This article will detail how to add and import source material.

Adding Source Material

To add source material to an item, select the ‘Add Source Material’ button underneath the question stem at the top of the item page, which will take you to the Media Library. Here you can select a singular file or a group of media to add to your item. Select ‘Add media to item’ and your material will be available to candidates in delivery at full resolution.

Importing Source Material

To import media, select the green ‘Import’ button to the left of the screen and this will bring up your system network, where you select your media.

Once you select a file to upload, the ‘Upload Media’ window will appear. You will be asked if you want the file to be used as Media or as Source Material. Select to upload the file as ‘Source Material’.

If you choose to add your file as source material, a tick box stating ‘Import full size image’ will appear. If you select this, the image will be imported at its original resolution. This might be necessary if you wish the candidate to view an image using the Image Viewer and see the full detail of the image.

Note: If you want the candidate to be able to zoom in and out of the image, it must be at least 685 x 520 px.

You can rename the title and alternative text (for accessibility purposes) of your source material at item-level, which will then show in delivery. Use the arrow to expand the group and edit the details of individual items.

The image title(s) and alternative text within the media library itself will not be affected.

You can also choose to create your own source material. For more information on how to do this, please see the article ‘How to Create Source Material’.
